What is Discovery’s LABORAL?

LABORAL is the labor wellness program of the Discovery Hospitality Corporation, as part of its OSH shared services offerings.

 

What is Labor Wellness?

 

Labor Wellness refers to Workplace Wellbeing - it relates to all aspects of working life, from the quality and safety of the physical environment, to how workers feel about their work, their working environment, the climate at work and work organization.

The aim of measures for workplace wellbeing is to complement OSH initiatives, to make sure workers are safe, healthy, satisfied and engaged at work.

 

What is Workplace Ergonomics?

 

Defined as the science of fitting a workplace to the user’s needs, Ergonomics aims to increase efficiency and productivity and reduce discomfort. 

 

What is Labor Gymnastics?

Also referred to as OCCUPATIONAL GYMNASTICS. Labor Gymnastics is the practice of specific physical exercises for relaxation and muscle stretching performed before, during and/or after the working day.

 

The exercise takes 10-15 minutes and is performed in one’s own work space and with the same work clothes.

 

DELBIN & MORAES (2005) describe it as a practice consisting of relaxation and heating exercises that prepare the employees for their service, because it can provide them muscles, tendons and ligaments ready for the journey they will face.

What is GPA?

GPA is a Brazilian company engaged in workplace wellness and ergonomics. Founded in 2003, GPA brings to Manila the ergonomic discipline of Labor Gymnastics as a tool to deliver Workplace Wellness.

Why GPA?

GPA is a leader in Labor Gynastics in Brazil with almost 2 decades of experience in Workplace Wellness.

Where did Labor Gymnastics originate?

First report of Labor Gymnastics was recorded in Poland in 1925 known as PAUSE GYMNASTICS.

 

It arrived in Japan in 1928 called Preparatory Work Gymnastics and was brought to Brazil by the Japanese in 1969.

How long is the program?

Depending on the objectives of the company, the program can be a permanent part of the employee lifestyle, or can be designed for a yearly KPI achievement, or targeted 6-month programs (even less).

 

How long is a session?

The exercise session lasts for 12-15 minutes with an additional 5-minute pre & post discussion.

How are the sessions done?

 

  • Face-to-Face

    • Instructors visit the work place and conduct the sessions with 15-20 participants per session.

    • The sessions can be conducted within the actual work place or a designated area in the office complex.

    • Sessions are scheduled based on the objective of the program: Morning, mid-day, during work day, end of the day.

 

 

 

  • Virtual

    • Inter-active Zoom sessions can be designed and organized based on the objective of the company. The design ensures the instructor engages directly with participants with the assistance of a moderator.

    • Assisted or Moderated Zoom Webinar can be implemented for bigger attendees. Exercise videos support the moderator in staging the session.

 

Can you customize a labor gymnastics program based on my budget?

Budget is definitely one aspect of consideration in designing labor gymnastics programs. The different ways of implementation can achieve cost efficiency on one hand or focused personalized key performance delivery, on the other.
